God’s Providence

What do I mean by God’s providence? The dictionary defines it as: “God’s preserving and governing all God’s creatures.” As water flows into the sea it evaporates to the clouds and then falls down as fresh water. This cycle is continuous and necessary for our survival. Jesus reminds us that God “causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” Jesus was using this illustration when teaching his disciples that they need to love not only their friends, but all people. God provides equally for all people because God equally loves all people, whether we acknowledge this or not. We also read in Exodus how God provided water for the Jews as they came out of Egypt because they were complaining. He commanded Moses to hit a rock with his staff and water flowed out. It is interesting that God will provide for us even when we complain or do not acknowledge God’s providence at all. God’s love is truly unconditional.
